origin: South American. Native to Venezuela . It lives in streams at the base of the Andean mountains. These streams feed the Orinoco drainage
Size: 3"-5" Depending on the type most common ones will only get to 3".
Tank size: 20 Gal larger is better.
    Temp: 63F - 75F being the Warmest.
Diet: Omnivore algae and larva. Some will take pellets others might not. might take time to wean them.
Temperament: peaceful Might get territorial toward other plecos.
    breeding: NA

    Tank set up:
Sand or Large Round rocks. Lots of caves are a must. Some wood is a good idea as well. Most important is plenty of water movement and lots of oxygen. They need Very clean water as well. Adding a powerhead to help create currant is ideal. Or put your spray bar above the water line to make a water fall effect also helps. These guys need well oxygenated water. But once established they are be hardy plecos.

They are wild caught so adjusting to aquarium life can be hard at first. try different kinds of food. growing algae for them is a good idea. most commonly caught are the Chaetostoma sp. (1) L187b. it is not uncommon to come across an unidentified Chaetostoma. There are many of these type of fish some not yet classified.

How to identife Chaetostoma ingeneral. The species has spines behind the gill-cover (interopercular odontodes), no plates on the abdomen. They have a fleshy nose with no plates.

These are not overly shy plecos. They come out during the day and enjoy sucking on the sides of the tank.

    Here is the common L187b
