| So I had never had this catfish before but I purchased an aquarium yesterday and the tank came with one. The man said he had this catfish for 6 months and this fish has already reached 6-7 inches in length. He came with 2 convicts and a Jack Dempsey. He has some kinda personality and has lightly chased the others and even chased the Jack Dempsey while swimming upside down last night. This catfish is native to Africa and is a relative to the popular upside-down catfish. They can be found in many rivers and lakes in Central Africa. They typically reach 6-8 inches but can reach near 12 inches! They are brown/gray with black spots. The most notable thing about this fish is the fins as they are quite striking. These fish make a great center piece to an aquarium and great with larger species of fish. The Featherfin is considered and upside down species as well and they swim upside down gracefully. I have not heard this from mine possibly because he is not threatened but they can squeak to warm predators and during spawning they will as well. These can be kept single or with another but small fish are at risk due to the size of this cat. They will chase each other as well. You will want a few caves so they can hide and have a territory as well. They are fairly hardy and can be kept in a community tank or even with African cichlids. In the set up mine is in I have no concern for his safety as he is as big as the cichlids and so far the convict is the only one to even dare challenge him and he seems fearless. These fish typically live 8-10 years but can live up to 25 years. They are great scavengers and eat algae and insect larvae. Little is known of aquarium breeding if any. This fish is a food hog, be wary if you have slow eaters | |

| Years ago I keep many Synodontis that were huge. Decorus 30", an Angelicus 30" plus many others. Never had your type but I'm thinking it gets big. I feed them weekly a box of 4-5 inch pool comets. They were gone in seconds. Good luck with your new catfish. | |
