Hey! I've been silent on here for quite sometime, been busy with fish, work and family, but I'm having a conundrum I'm wondering about....

I purchased a male and a female squareback anthias (Pseudoanthias pleurotaenia) I knew they required multiple feedings of meaty foods each day and watched the male for 2 weeks (I work at the store I buy all my fish from) before buying him. I bought him and 1 female the same day. After adding them (drip acclimation for about 1 hour) they hid for about a day before coming out (normal from what I understand). They were fed a combination of frozen mysis, spirulina brine shrimp, squid, omega one flakes with garlic and new life spectrum thera a. I observed the female eating readily every time but don't remember the male eating. The male died 3 days after being added, but was observed swimming around earlier in the day. The female was found dead 2 days after that. She, however, was observed gulping and looking very distressed shortly before death, and was found with that look on her lifeless body. I am puzzled why I lost the female (the male I figure was too stressed to eat right away and then starved due to their fast metabolism... but I'm not 100% certain). They hid in caves when not swimming about. Any ideas on why/how she died?

Based on how she died I'm wondering if I might have a culprit hiding among the rocks... but I haven't lost any other fish. I might be missing some hermit crabs, but I'm not completely sure, hard to keep track of those guys.

what where they eating at the store before you bought them and what was the temp of there tank, and the temp of your tank.

I do know some distrupitors aha i can't spell tonight. will feed frozen, then they get to the store and the store tries to feed flakes where the fish won't eat, and then the customer feeds flakes and they won't eat. so they end up dying that way...

also the dansels could of been mean to them... if you ever want blue, get the blue - green chromis they are peaceful... damsels are mean.

They were being fed a combination of Omega One flakes with garlic and frozen mysis shrimp at the store. I observed both eating while they were there. Like I said, I've been feeding a combination of omega one with garlic flakes, spectrum thera a, frozen mysis, frozen spirulina brine shrimp, frozen squid.

The temp of the store tank was 78 and mine is (as listed above) 80. Like I said they were drip acclimated for an hour, to get them used to temp change, any pH difference, etc.

I was going to buy blue green chromis, I knew better than to buy the blue fin damsels, I am an idiot for thinking that I could catch them easily to take them back. They were never meant to be permanent residents. I know they turn into aggressive totally black jerks. Currently they only pick on my corals mad crazy and each other, I have not observed them bullying anyone else yet.... (that day, I'm sure is coming).
