My 75g community tank has been doing great for over a year now. All of a sudden it has started growing this black algae on everything. How do I get rid of it. The silk plants I can take out and treat with light bleach. what is causing it?

well try scrubbing everything with the algae then do a suction vacuuming it out doing a 50% water change. Watch your ph carefully. can you put your fish in another tank do you have a UV light/

No UV light. No I don't have another tank for all of them. Did a water change yesterday.

we have that in some of our tanks . I believe it came attached to some live plants we bought at petsmart .
we just scrub/scrape it off every now and again.
