Got my Betta! *New question post* Frio
Got my Betta! *New question post* Frio-1

Only I could stay home sick from school and come back with a Betta. lol! I was going to get one forever ago, but had to wait until I moved. Now I'm officially moved in, and have been fish hunting for awhile. Was shocked to find him at the local pet store. The exact kind of color I wanted, and his head is kind of gray... Once I saw his head and realized how much like an old hateful man he looked like, I had to have him. So happy I found him! Sure, he might not be show or breeding quality... but gosh, he's awesome. x3

I have to keep him in that mason jar til Friday. I have a 10 gallon tank to set up for him... but I'm having problems figuring out what to put in the bottom of the tank, and finding plants that are not plastic. I thought of finding a way to tether a piece of bubble wrap in his tank, so that he has something gentle to rest on... Also, I want to get something as a tank mate (which I've already posted before) but not sure what. My mother keeps suggesting one of those big, mind-their-own-business kind of placo (pleco?) fish.

Edit; New pics

All that matters is that you like it! Nice betta. If you end up getting a pleco get a BN, they don't get that big.

Nice Betta. Doesn't have to be show quality as long as you like him. Be sure to do a few water changes before Friday. Don't want those beautiful fins to get fin rot.

Thanks, Flippercon!

Thank you, whisper. He's in clean water currently, and seems to be doing okay. He's a very active fellow. o.o

Okay, so, I need help... I bought a brand of food I thought would be small enough, but it doesn't seem to be the case. They're called beta bites and they're little hard balls of food. Frio obviously is trying to eat them, but he'll suck/munch or something on one for a few seconds and then spit it right back out... I'm thinking this isn't an ideal food choice for him. Am I right about them being too big or could he just be nosing around but not really hungry?

I personally hate the food in the stores for Bettas for that very reason. I only use Atison's Betta Pro for mine. But there are two things you can do. Either soak them a few minutes before feeding or grind them up smaller.

Ending up getting a second thing of food and grinding up a good amount of the first... seems to be doing well now. :) Also got his tank set up.. instead of a 10 gallon, I bought him a 5 gallon. Not live plants, but very soft cloth with a velvety stump too that he is LOVING. So happy with him and his new house!

Indeed, it is. I have a dilemma, though. His tank is so beautiful and he looks so happy in it... x_x Makes me want about 8 more, bahaha! They're like chips!

that's a saying with Betta people. You can't have just one. LOL You can divide it off and have about three sections for more ya know. LOL In fact some breeders do that to keep there males in.

My parents would kill me, and I don't think I'd be able to keep their water clean enough for them to be comfortable. x3 Having a lot sounds nice, but I simply don't have the time. Frio can stay with me for as long as he wants and then I'll pick another beautiful creature to enjoy the massive tank, lol!

They are gorgeous, no argument there. I don't have a betta right now, but will have again. Clients who come into the office where I work ask when I'm getting another and seem to think it's funny that I keep a tank set up with no fish. It's pretty, though.

Would it be that much harder to have the tank clean for three than it is for just one? Just wondering.

when I divide a tank I use the plastic canvas that you would use for cross stitch. That way the water still flows through all the compartments. You do however have to syphon the bottoms of all every so often.

whisper, I know I have absolutely spammed you with questions, but this guy is just shocking me left and right. Have you ever had male bettas that would wrap around inanimate objects like its a female? Frio seems to have frisky male puppy syndrome... He is wrapping himself around everything. The filter (which is freaking me out. had a childhood fish get stuck to a filter while I was on vacation... not a pleasant find for a 7 year old), his stump edges, the stalks of the plants, etc. He's swimming around like normal, he's not blotted, nothing odd or off about him... except he's wrapping around stuff. What the heck?!! xD

He probably is trying to spawn...The filter thing is something to worry about though. There fins can very easely get sucked up in a filter. Put nylon netting around it held with a rubberband around it. I have done that and it works good.
